Carlos "Cratos" Ayala is an American player and captain of Ronin Esports. He is well known for his time with Enigma6 Group and Team Allegiance.

Biography

Halo 3

Cratos had a lowkey start to his professional Halo career, playing throughout the 2009 MLG season but never placing in the top 32. His first event was MLG Meadowlands 2009, where he played on team CrossFire alongside Five.Star, Godlike_XF and Godly_. At MLG Dallas, Cratos played on team New Boyz alongside -ImplosioN- Stizunna and Godlike. In Anaheim, he took a top 48 placing, his highest of the season, with an unknown team.

Cratos' professional career got a jumpstart in 2010, as he attended the MLG D.C. 2010 in both the Halo 3 tournament and Halo: Reach combine. On the Halo 3 side of things, Cratos competed on team Down to Snuggle alongside K3TCHUP, -Aurora- and condor1590. They placed 18th, Cratos' highest placing yet. In the Reach combine, hOt N MiLD, consisting of Cratos, Goatsi, Trigga and Jumpman finished 4th at the event, making names for themselves as top prospects.

Halo: Reach

Hot N Mild returned for the MLG Dallas 2010 Reach exhibition, placing 6th this time. As the real season started, Hot N Mild replaced Goatsi and Trigga with SuperStr8Sick and Eli. They took 28th at the kickoff event in Dallas. Cratos reunited with Goatsi for the following event in Columbus, forming DGR Ultimate alongside Aptitude and Agent. They took 23rd. Hot N Mild reunited for the next event in Anaheim, with Cratos, Goatsi and Agent joining Jumpman to fill out the roster. They took 25th place. Cratos and Jumpman took a step back in Raleigh, placing top 48 on team Legacy alongside wtfadvent and Xzinity. Cratos then joined DrkGangstaRappers alongside Tensified, AM_FOLEY and MrNemesis for Orlando, where they placed 25th. For the Providence National Championships, Cratos formed Crowd Pleasers alongside Chaser, LifeStyle and Shooter. They placed 18th, a career high for the entire team at that point. Crowd Pleasers returned at the Columbus no-bloom event with Ulrich in place of LifeStyle. They finished in the top 48 after losses to The Agency and Rack City.

Halo 4

Cratos and Shooter stuck together going into the MLG Fall Championship 2012 Halo 4 exhibition event, recruiting LifeStyle and ShowTime to fill out the roster. They took top 12 at their first Halo 4 event. At AGL 5 Nashville, the same roster returned, taking a top 8 placing this time around. Cratos and ShowTime formed a new team for AGL 6 Pittsburgh, recruiting SickStory and Nemassist to fill out their DGR Scargang roster. They took a top 6 placing at the small event. Cratos then reunited Crowd Pleasers, bringing back LifeStyle and Shooter but replacing ShowTime with Nemassist, and attended AGL 7 Knoxville with the team. They took a top 6 placing at the event. Cratos sat out the remainder of Halo 4.

Halo 2: Anniversary

Cratos resumed his competitive Halo career shortly after the birth of the Halo Championship Series, attending his first H2A event at UGC St. Louis 2015 with a Crowd Pleasers team consisting of himself, PreDevoNatoR, LifeStyle and Blaze RoZaY. They took top 12 at what was one of the biggest events since the MLG days. Cratos then joined Velocity eSports alongside Nemassist, Suspector and eL TowN. The roster took a top 12 placing at Gamers For Giving 2015, not enough to qualify for the HCS Season 1 Finals.

Velocity made a roster change during the offseason, replacing eL TowN with LifeStyle. At Iron Games Atlanta 2015, the new Velocity roster placed 8th. Cratos, LifeStyle and Suspector then left the Velocity organization, joining Noble eSports alongside ContrA. They took 8th place at HCS Indianapolis 2015, but were unable to qualify for the HCS Season 2 Finals, due to their inactivity in the online cups.

Halo 5: Guardians

In December 2015, Cratos and Suspector joined Allegiance eSports alongside Naded and eL TowN. The new roster dominated the Halo World Championship 2016 NA qualifier series, taking the highest seed in the NA Regional Finals. At the X Games Aspen 2016 invitational, Allegiance finished 3rd, earning Bronze Medals. At Regionals, Allegiance finished top 4, sweeping their group and defeating Noble eSports before being upset by Denial eSports in the semifinals. Regardless, they qualified for Halo World Championship 2016. At Worlds, Allegiance came out slow, losing 3-0 to Team Liquid in their group, but managed to make it out as the group runner-up. In the bracket, Allegiance narrowly defeated Renegades in a hotly contested series 3-2, before taking out eLevate in 6 games in the semifinals. In the finals, Cratos and Allegiance were defeated 4-0 by the powerhouse Counter Logic Gaming team, who ended their night with a 2nd place finish. Nonetheless, Allegiance took home a $500,000 prize from their placing. On March 22nd, Cratos announced on social media that he was looking for a team for Season 2. Shortly after, Allegiance's manager confirmed in a forum post that Cratos was no longer a part of the team.

On April 11th, Cratos joined Enigma6 Group alongside bubu dubu, Huke and Shooter. The team qualified for the Pro League at the Summer Qualifier. E6 finished 2nd in the League, notably being the only team to defeat Counter Logic Gaming in a series. At the Season Finals, E6 finished 2nd, losing in the finals to CLG.

E6 made roster changes in the offseason, replacing the departing Shooter and Huke with Suspector and StelluR. Their first (and only) event together was the independent 2050 Chattanooga, where they took 1st place. Shortly afterwards, as the Fall Season of Pro League was kicking off, E6 and StelluR entered a contract dispute, which ultimately resulted in his departure from the team in early October and the return of Shooter. During the fallout from the StelluR incident, Enigma6 were fined 5% of their season earnings by ESL due to misconduct. Cratos was fined an additional 5% for personal misconduct. The new roster's first event was HCS Orange County 2016, where they finished top 6, eliminated through losses to Team EnVyUs and Team Liquid. Their next event was UGC St. Louis 2016, at which they had a much stronger showing, defeating Team Allegiance and Evil Geniuses en route to a finals loss against a hybrid Team EnVyUs/OpTic Gaming lineup. Enigma6 ultimately finished 7th with a 4-10 record, winning only one match after the departure of StelluR and facing Relegation. At HCS Las Vegas 2016, E6 finished top 8 after an upset loss to 3sUP - a team they would be meeting at Relegation. At Relegation, E6 chose to face 3sUP in Round 1 and took them out in a very close 4-3 series. In the following round, they defeated Team Allegiance 4-2, saving their spot in the Pro League.

During the offseason, Cratos formed a new team alongside Naded, Str8 SicK and Nemassist. In a controversial "business decision", Cratos and Enigma6 manager ShowTime managed to acquire Enigma6's pro seed, despite only one member of the team and the manager being carried forward. On January 16th, the team was signed by Pnda Gaming. The roster's first event together was UGC St. Louis 2017, where they finished in the top 12 after losses to SetToDestroyX and Luminosity Gaming. Following UGC, Pnda replaced Nemassist with Danoxide. At ME Las Vegas 2017, a rejuvenated Pnda showed up, taking out Team Allegiance in a dramatic series to qualify for Halo World Championship 2017 and ultimately finishing 4th overall after another win over Str8 Rippin followed by a loss to Team EnVyUs. On March 13th, Pnda announced the release of its Halo roster. Cratos confirmed that they would be competing as Crowd Pleasers moving forward. The following day, it was announced that Crowd Pleasers would be sponsored by MoneyMatches for Worlds and attending as TMMT Crowd Pleasers. At Worlds, Crowd Pleasers were placed in a group alongside reigning champions OpTic Gaming and 2nd-ranked EU squad Supremacy. CP were able to defeat Supremacy 3-1, but were swept by OpTic for a 2nd place finish in the group. In their first match of the Championship Bracket, CP were defeated 4-3 in a very close match against Str8 Rippin. Looking to go on a Losers' Bracket run, they defeated London Conspiracy 4-1 to clinch top 8, but could not get past Team EnVyUs, who swept them 4-0 and sent them home with a top 8 finish.

After Worlds, Crowd Pleasers made changes as Naded and Danoxide left and were replaced by Spartan and Suspector. The team was then acquired by Ronin Esports. At UMG Daytona, Ronin finished 4th in its pool. After a win over Wise Gaming, they were swept by Team EnVyUs and sent to Losers, where they beat DoZe Esports before being eliminated by Str8 Rippin for a top 8 finish.

Trivia

  • His name was derived from the main character of God of War (Kratos) spelling it with a C so it was more like his own name
  • Cratos' words and actions have resulted in his becoming a polarizing, controversial figure among the Halo community.
