Halo World Championship Tour: Cologne was a one-time qualifier to determine the four teams, from the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region, that qualified for Halo World Championship 2016, taking place at the ESL Studios in Cologne, Germany from February 6-7, 2016. Halo 5 was played in 4v4 competition.

Overview

The EMEA Regional Finals followed the regional online qualifier series in addition to two live event qualifiers in London and Paris. Teams invited to the event included four teams from the United Kingdom (qualified through the Gfinity UK Finals), two teams from Germany, one qualified through a Germany-exclusive qualifier and the other qualified through a general Europe qualifier, four teams from France, one qualified through the XES France Championship 2016 and the other three from general Europe qualifiers and one team from South Africa, qualified through a South Africa-exclusive qualifier.

Arguably the biggest early surprise of the event was the elimination of Team Dignitas during the Group Stage. Dignitas had been a powerhouse team in the UK pre-qualifiers and had a strong 2nd place finish at the UK Finals event just weeks prior. In the Group Stage, they were handily defeated by both Millenium and FAB Games eSports, ending their hopes of competing for the $2,000,000 prize. After Groups were all said and done, 8 teams remained. Among them were four French teams, three UK teams and one German team. All four French teams were eliminated in the Quarterfinals, ending any hope of France being represented at HWC 2016. The qualifiers were decided - fabE, Epsilon, Infused and exceL, but there was still a huge prize pool to be won here in its own right. exceL made relatively short work of fabE, while a much more hotly contested battle occurred on the other side of the bracket. Longtime rivals Infused and Epsilon met once again, Epsilon having won the lion's share of their past meetings. This time, Infused came out strong and took a 2-0 series lead. Epsilon came back and tied the series 2-2, but Infused took the next two games to defeat their rivals and move on. In the finals, Infused made short work of exceL, winning 4-1 and winning the organization's first major Halo tournament, arguably the biggest Halo event to ever take place in Europe.
