Austin "Mikwen" McCleary is an American player who is the captain of Team EnVyUs. He is well known for his time with Denial eSports and Turning Point.

Biography

Austin McCleary was born on September 14th. He is from Battle Creek, Michigan.

Halo 3

Mikwen's first professional event was MLG Columbus 2009 where he secured a top 80 finish as a member of Defining Moment alongside Apple, Best Mistake and Laxkid. He then attended Dallas with Focus, Obiee and Stank as a member of American Havok where he placed top 64. He then attended Anaheim with Jayrock, Oreokid and Testdahfy calling themselves Vista they would finish top 48.

2010 would mark the beginning of his professional career, finishing 18th in Colubmus as a member of Gimme My Money with Elitest, GMM Legend and Reliable. He would also attend Raleigh that year as a member of Count Your Blessings next to Ghetto, Jordan and Stayz finishing in 27th.

Halo: Reach

At the end of the year Mikwen would once again join forces with Elitest to remake Gimme My Money, this time with Bulletz and Entry. They would finish in 8th at MLG Dallas 2010.

The new year would see him remain with the team, however he and Elitest would now play with Twin Savior and bring back Reliable. The roster would attend MLG Dallas 2011 together and come in 11th. They would drop the pair in favor of Chig and Str8Sick for Columbus but only finish in 19th place. This would lead him to join Turning Point for the rest of the year alongside Ninja and Walshy. They would play with Best Man for Anaheim coming in 7th. They would then replace him for Adrenaline before Raleigh, where they would finish 9th. Swapping out adrenaline for Naded they would go to Orlando and come in 9th, as well as finishing 12th in Providence.

Mikwen decided to join Str8 Rippin for the start of 2012, going to Columbus next to Ninja, Strongside and Tsquared where they would finish 13th-16th.

Halo 4

Mikwen would attend three events with Classic for Halo 4. He, Chig, Best Man and Russo went to AGL 5 Nashville, finishing 9th-12th. Best Man would then be swapped with Ryanoob in time for AGL7 Knoxville and the crew would come in 3rd place. He and Chig would then attend AGL 8 Knoxville, this time with Roy and APG where they would finish in 5-6th. Mikwen would then join up with VwS Gaming and attend RTX 2014 as a member of VwS Legendary, placing 5-6th.

Halo 2: Anniversary

Mikwen stayed with VwS Gaming for the launch of MCC and Halo 2: Anniversary, and attended the PAX Prime Showdown 2014 with Naded, Goofy and Legit, as VwS USA, coming in 2nd overall. The team would then finish 4th at the ESL MCC Launch Invitational.

Mikwen parted ways with VwS for the HCS, opting to sign with Denial eSports along with Chig, Ryanoob and Cloud. Denial placed 9-12th at Iron Games Columbus 2014 with Clutch subbing in for Chig, but came roaring back with the proper roster at UGC St. Louis 2015, placing 1st. They then placed 5th at Gamers For Giving 2015 and went into the season finals at PAX East 2015 as the #3 seed. At PAX, they again underperformed, placing 5-6th.

Denial underwent some changes in the offseason, with the departure of Cloud and the release of Ryanoob. They were replaced by Heinz and APG, respectively. The new squad did well at Iron Games Atlanta 2015, where they placed 2nd, managing to take a series from Evil Geniuses in the Grand Finals. Mikwen had a stellar event, with many highlight reel plays. At HCS Indianapolis, Mikwen and Denial looked to defeat Evil Geniuses in the winners' finals, but they were beaten in an intense series and sent to the losers' finals, where they were defeated by Counter Logic Gaming to end their tournament with a 3rd place finish. At the HCS Season 2 Finals, Mikwen and Denial again came up short, finishing 3rd to close out the season.

Halo 5: Guardians

On August 12, Denial announced the disbandment of their Halo roster, and Chig confirmed that he and Mikwen were currently looking for two teammates. On August 27, Mikwen and Chig joined Team Liquid alongside Ninja and Ace, but this roster would never play an event together, as Mikwen ended up leaving Liquid shortly after joining to join Team EnVyUs alongside Heinz, APG and Pistola on November 10.[1] Mikwen explained his reasoning behind changing teams in a post on the Team Beyond forums. Eventually, Heinz and APG would leave EnVyUs and were replaced by Arkanum and OGRE2. Team EnVyUs finished top 16 at the HWC 2016 NA Regional Finals, failing to qualify for Worlds.

Following Worlds, EnVyUs made roster changes, with the new roster consisting of Mikwen, Pistola, Rayne and eL TowN. The team qualified for Pro League at the Summer Qualifier. EnVy finished 3rd place in the Regular Season, notably having the most maps played out of any team. At the Season Finals, EnVy finished 3rd.

During the off-season, EnVyUs made roster changes, replacing eL TowN with Snip3down and Rayne with Huke. After beating OpTic Gaming (formerly CLG) in a scrim, and later a Pro League match, the roster began to be considered as a threat to OpTic's position of dominance. At HCS Orange County 2016, EnVy finished 2nd, losing to OpTic in the finals with a 2-10 overall map count against them. EnVy ended up finishing the season with a 13-1 record, good enough for 1st place. Weeks later, EnVyUs attended HCS Las Vegas 2016, where they finished 1st over five other Pro League teams, not including OpTic Gaming. At the Season Finals, EnVyUs successfully captured the throne as they defeated OpTic in two straight best-of-7s (after losing 4-1 in the Winners Finals) to secure 1st place.

At the first event of HaloWC 2017 season, - UGC St. Louis 2017 - EnVyUs came out strong, but were again defeated in the WB Finals by OpTic. This time around, they were denied a Grand Finals rematch after losing to Team Liquid in a 5-game thriller. EnVyUs placed below 2nd for the first time since the inception of the roster. At ME Las Vegas 2017, EnVyUs easily qualified for Worlds with victories over Second Nature and Team CryptiK. They were then defeated 4-1 by Team Liquid, forcing them to make a Losers Bracket run by defeating Luminosity Gaming (4-3) and Pnda Gaming (4-1) to earn a rematch, which they lost 4-2, resulting in a 3rd place finish for EnVyUs. At Worlds, EnVyUs took an early loss to Splyce in Pool Play, resulting in a first round matchup against Team Liquid in the bracket. Liquid defeated them 4-3, sending them to LB Round 1 at the biggest tournament of the year. EnVyUs didn't die easy however, sweeping through Supremacy, TMMT Crowd Pleasers, Luminosity Gaming and Str8 Rippin before taking Liquid out 4-2 in a rematch and earning a spot in the Grand Finals against OpTic Gaming. OpTic made short work of EnVyUs, sweeping them 4-0 and taking their second straight World Championship.

At the first event of the 2017 season, UMG Daytona, EnVyUs won their pool with victories and started the Championship Bracket off with back-to-back sweeps. In the third round, EnVyUs went up against Oxygen Supremacy, a team from the Open Bracket coming off upsets over pro teams. EnVy dropped the first two games of the series but successfully rallied to take a 3-2 victory. In the Winners Finals, they were defeated by OpTic Gaming in their first matchup on the 2017 settings. After a 4-0 sweep over Team Liquid, EnVy moved onto the Grand Final and won two straight game sevens over OpTic to win their first event since the Fall Finals.

Trivia

  • Mikwen and his Denial teammate Chig became the first players to win an HCS event (UGC St. Louis 2015) without having won an MLG event in the past.
