Justin "Roy" Brown is an American player for Evil Geniuses. He is also well known for his time on teams Instinct and 5K.

Biography

Justin "Roy" Brown was born on July 6th 1990. He is from Urbana, Illinois. He's teamed with his twin brother Jason "Lunchbox" Brown for his whole professional Halo career, barring a few events.

Halo 2

Roy began his professional career in 2007 as a member of 5K alongside Hokum, FearitSelf and his twin brother Lunchbox. The roster would stick together the entire year getting 4th in Charlotte, 5th in Meadowlands, 4th in Dallas, 5th in Chicago, 12th in Orlando and qualifying for Vegas where they would finish in 5th.

Halo 3

2008

In 2008 Roy and his brother would form Instinct with Mackeo and Victory X for Meadowlands, where they placed 3rd. Victory X was then replaced by Snipedown, and the team placed 2nd at MLG San Diego 2008. Victory X returned replacing Snipedown, and they repeated their 3rd placing at MLG Orlando 2008. 2008 was a good year for Roy and the newly formed Instinct, placing top 3 in all but one event. The roster then underwent a major revision, with both Victory X and Mackeo leaving and being replaced by Walshy and Soviet. This team picked up placings of 2nd and 5th at MLG Toronto 2008 and MLG Dallas 2008, respectively, before placing 2nd at the MLG Las Vegas Championships 2008, capping off a successful inaugural year for Instinct with $60,000 in Nationals winnings, five top 3 finishes and an average placing of 2.8. Roy was named MLG MVP of the year for 2008.

2009

Roy and Instinct kicked off 2009 by replacing Soviet with Neighbor. This team took 2nd at MLG Meadowlands 2009, and 5th at MLG Columbus 2009. Walshy then left the team, and was replaced by Gh057ayame for one event, MLG Dallas 2009, at which they placed 3rd. FearItSelf returned for two events, placing 7th at MLG Orlando 2009 before taking 4th at the Orlando National Championships, taking home $28,000 in winnings and capping off a less successful year for Roy, with an average placing of 4.2.

2010

Roy and Instinct kicked off 2010 with a roster that would stick together for the entire year, replacing FearItSelf and Neighbor with Cloud and ElamiteWarrior. This roster had an immediate impact on the circuit, and Roy won his first ever event at MLG Orlando 2010. They followed this up with a repeat performance at MLG Columbus 2010, defeating the newly formed Final Boss team of Ogre 2, iGotUrPistola, FearItSelf and Victory X to win their second straight event. Unfortunately for Roy and Instinct, Final Boss picked up steam, and defeated Instinct in the finals at MLG Raleigh 2010. Instinct had a relatively disappointing MLG Washington, D.C. 2010, at which they placed 6th, but they followed it up with 3rd at MLG Dallas Championships 2010, taking home $40,000 and capping off Instinct's most successful year yet, with two event wins and an average placing of 2.6.

Halo: Reach

2011

Roy and Instinct started a new year and a new Halo game with a new roster: Roy, Lunchbox, Tsquared and Totz. This roster would only last for one event, placing a disappointing 6th at MLG Dallas 2010. This lead to a huge team change, with Ogre2 (leaving Final Boss for the first time since its inception) and iGotUrPistola leaving Final Boss, who had placed an even more disappointing 10th, and joining Roy and Lunchbox to form a team that many fans referred to as "the God Squad". The team lived up to the hype, winning MLG Columbus 2011 (Roy was named MVP of the event) and dominating MLG Anaheim 2011 without dropping a single game. At MLG Raleigh 2011, Instinct faced off in the finals against the newly formed Infamous team of a Pure Gangster, Lethul, Blaze and Ryanoob. Fans consider this series to be one of the most exciting and close matches of Halo: Reach, and Infamous took it in 10 games. The next event was another disappointment for Instinct, with a placing of 5th, but they returned to commanding form at the MLG Providence Championships 2011, winning Roy his first ever national championships and taking home $100,000. Roy's average placing for 2011 was 2.3, his most successful year to that point.

2012

At MLG Columbus 2012, the only Halo Reach event of 2012, the God Squad stuck together, placing 2nd, losing to the newly formed Status Quo team of Enable, Flamesword, Snake Bite and Royal 2. Following this event, MLG dropped Halo Reach from the circuit, and Roy attended AGL 1 Chicago as a member of Status Quo, playing without Lunchbox for the first time in his professional Halo career and leaving Instinct for the first time. Roy and SQ won this event.

At AGL 2 Columbus, the final Reach event, the "God Squad" reunited as Instinct, and won the event.

Halo 4

2012

Roy and the God Squad stuck together for the MLG Fall Championship 2012, where they placed a disappointing Top 12. Roy would then go on to play as a member of Classic at UMG Chicago 2013, where they placed 2nd. Roy and Classic returned at AGL 8 Knoxville, where they placed Top 6.

Halo 2: Anniversary

2014

With the launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Roy attended the ESL MCC Launch Invitational as a member of Str8 Rippin alongside Tsquared, Str8Sick and Ryanoob, where they placed 2nd, losing to Believe the Hype. Roy would join forces with his brother once again as they were signed by Evil Geniuses to kick off the inaugural HCS season, with Snipedown and iGotUrPistola rounding out the roster. They placed 2nd at Iron Gaming Columbus, losing in the finals to Counter Logic Gaming. Following the loss to CLG, Pistola punched the ground in anger, causing a fracture in his hand. This forced Evil Geniuses to place Pistola on reserve and pick up Lethul. The new squad finished 3rd at UGC St. Louis 2015 before winning Gamers For Giving 2015, defeating CLG for the first time in the Grand Finals. They then went into the Season 1 Finals at PAX East and won, defeating CLG in two straight series, taking home $50,000.

Roy and Evil Geniuses kicked off season 2 at Iron Games Atlanta 2015, where, despite losing in the first series of the Grand Finals to Denial eSports, they were able to win the extended series and take 1st at the event, making it three straight for Roy and EG.[1] Roy and EG's dominance continued at HCS Indianapolis, where they extended their LAN winning streak to four events, this time not losing a series.[2] Roy and EG returned at the HCS Season 2 Finals where, as expected, they placed 1st, despite CLG managing to take the initial Grand Finals series off them.

Halo 5: Guardians

The dominant EG lineup stuck together until January 2016, when Lethul opted to leave to join Counter Logic Gaming. In Lethul's place, EG picked up the relatively new Commonly. At X Games Aspen 2016, EG won the first chapter of the rivalry against Lethul, defeating CLG 4-3 in the finals and winning gold medals. At the HWC NA Regional Finals 2016, EG were defeated 4-0 in the semifinals by CLG, ending their historic tournament winning streak. Fortunately though, Roy and the EG squad's performance was enough to earn them a spot in the Halo World Championship. Drawn into Group B, Roy and EG faced a tough 3-2 loss against Renegades. The squad swept the remaining teams in the group to advance to bracket play, showing little to no emotion in the process. They had an unfortunate first-round draw, faced with the tough task of defeating the powerhouse CLG squad. CLG ultimately took the series 3-0, ending Roy and EG's tournament with a top 8 finish and a $75,000 prize.

Shortly after Worlds, EG dropped Commonly and replaced him with Suspector. The team qualified for the Summer Pro League at the PAX Invitational. At the conclusion of the season, EG sat in 5th place, not enough to qualify for Season Finals but enough to secure a spot in the Fall Season.

During the offseason, Snip3down and Suspector left EG. They were replaced by Ninja and Victory X formerly of Cloud9. EG started the Fall Season off strong, defeating the dominant OpTic Gaming squad in Week 1, but ran into resistance in Week 3, losing two straight 0-3 series. This resulted in Victory X being dropped from the team and replaced by StelluR. EG attended UGC St. Louis 2016 with StelluR on board, placing 3rd. Returning to the Pro League season, the new roster lost six straight matches, only managing to win their last two on Week 7, finishing with a 5-9 record just good enough to take 6th place and avoid Relegation.

During the offseason, StelluR and Ninja were replaced by ContrA and PreDevoNatoR. The new roster's first event together was UGC St. Louis 2017, and they went into the event with high expectations due to their combined LAN pedigree. Unfortunately for EG, they were knocked out of the event by Inconceivable and eventual runners-up Team Liquid, finishing in the top 6. A few weeks later, EG made the decision to drop PreDevoNatoR and promote the recently retired OGRE2 from analyst to player. The new roster's first event together was ME Las Vegas 2017, where they finished in the top 12 after losses to Team CryptiK and Splyce.

Trivia

  • Regularly competes in the professional scene with his twin brother Lunchbox.
  • He is a multi-time MLG season MVP, winning in 2008 and (co-winner with iGotUrPistola) 2011.
